With the holidays coming up, this is officially Giving Season. And we want to share with you how C.A.R.’s Housing Affordability Fund (the cool kids call it HAF) has spent 2020 so far.
But first, a quick explanation in case you aren’t familiar with HAF.
In the midst of skyrocketing housing costs in 2002, REALTORS® were bearing witness to more working families getting pushed away from the American dream of homeownership. The Housing Affordability Fund was established to provide more options for first-time homebuyers to enter into homeownership.
And this year, we’ve been busy! We’ve raised over $325,000. And here’s where those dollars went:
- $50,000 grant program for active duty military, teachers, health care workers, fire and police personnel who are first time homebuyers
- $50,000 in grants to offer a fire insurance premium for first time homebuyers
- $50,000 grant program for public employees who are first time homebuyers with closing cost assistance
- $50,000 grant program to help veterans & active duty personnel with closing costs
- $30,000 for a down payment assistance program for first time homebuyers
- $50,000 grant program to help first time homebuyers with closing costs
Since its inception, thousands of first-time homebuyers have received help from HAF solely because of the determination and generosity of our REALTOR® members.
